How to Post RedGIFs on Reddit and Fix Link-Only Posts

Share a RedGIFs video on Reddit from desktop or mobile, then diagnose a missing embed, muted playback, blurry video, or a removed post without repeatedly reposting.

To post a RedGIFs video on Reddit, open the individual video, use Share → Copy link, and paste that address into a link post in your chosen subreddit. If the published post shows only a URL, first check that you submitted a link post rather than putting the address inside a text post. Then check whether Reddit is still processing the preview or has removed the post.

For an OnlyFans or Fansly creator sharing a public preview, those are different problems with different fixes. A working video on RedGIFs does not guarantee an immediate Reddit player, sound in the Reddit app, or approval from a subreddit.

Publish the video as a link post

If the clip is still on your phone or computer, upload it to RedGIFs first. The current official video-upload guide directs verified creators through Studio and other accounts through Upload. It supports MP4 and MOV, but no longer accepts GIF or WebM uploads; convert those files before continuing. Follow the upload prompts, check the audio setting and publish the clip.

Then open the individual RedGIFs upload you intend to share. Play it there once: confirm that it is the right clip, finishes processing, and contains the audio you expect. A profile or collection address will not point to the individual video.

On desktop:

  1. Open the video's three-dot menu on RedGIFs. Choose Share, then Copy link.
  2. On Reddit, choose Create Post and select the subreddit.
  3. Choose the Link post option and paste the copied address into its URL field. Add your title, the NSFW label where applicable, and any required flair.
  4. Check the community name and submit once. Save the Reddit post's permalink so you can reopen that exact post while troubleshooting.

On mobile, copy the address from the same RedGIFs share menu, then open Reddit's post composer and use its link option. You can also choose the Reddit icon in the RedGIFs share menu to open Reddit's composer; check the community and post details before submitting.

These routes follow the current RedGIFs sharing instructions and Reddit posting guide. The composer varies by device, and communities decide which post types they accept. If the link option is unavailable in your chosen subreddit, check its rules rather than assuming another upload will unlock it.

You do not need Reddit's native video-upload option for this method: the media stays on RedGIFs, and the Reddit submission points to it. Pasting a URL into the body of a text post is a different submission format; it should not be your test of whether a link post can display the video.

If it only shows a link, check these things in order

First, open the published post itself. A feed thumbnail, a collapsed card, the composer preview, and the full post are different views. Record where the problem appears before changing anything. If the full post plays but a feed view looks like a link, you have already narrowed the problem to how that view presents the post.

Second, open the RedGIFs link from that post. Does it reach the individual clip, and does that clip play? If it opens your profile, the wrong upload, or an unavailable page, return to the correct video's share menu. If the source video itself is broken, changing a Reddit title will not repair it.

Third, look for a removal or review notice. If Reddit or a moderator has removed the submission, work from that notice. Replacing a media URL does not settle a seller restriction, missing verification, or an account requirement. Our Reddit posting guide covers that separate situation.

Fourth, allow for an embed delay. RedGIFs says Reddit processing and caching can cause a link to appear before an embed does. Its advice is to avoid deleting the post immediately. The official link-only troubleshooting page does not give a guaranteed waiting time.

Finally, compare the same permalink in another view. Open it in a desktop browser if the problem is in the mobile app, or vice versa. A player working in one place and failing in another is useful information for a support report. It is not a reason to submit several copies to the community.

If the source works, the submission remains visible, and the embed still never appears, RedGIFs recommends uploading the original file again to obtain a fresh share URL. Reusing the old URL can retain the cached problem. Treat that as a later troubleshooting step, and check the subreddit's resubmission rules before making a replacement post.

Should you change /watch/ to /ifr/?

That advice appears in older discussions, but the current official sharing and link-only guides above do not prescribe it as a universal fix. Begin with the URL produced by Share → Copy link. Manually changing URL paths makes it harder to tell whether you are testing the supported share route or a separate embedding address.

Fix missing sound or blurry playback

Once the player appears, stop troubleshooting it as a missing embed. Use the symptom to choose the next check:

What you seeWhat to check next
The Reddit player is silentOpen the same clip on RedGIFs and check whether the source has sound
Sound works on RedGIFs but not in the Reddit appCheck the app's playback limitation before uploading another copy
The Reddit player looks blurry, but the source is clearLet playback load and compare the same moment in the source video
The source also looks blurry or has no audioInspect the original file and the RedGIFs upload

Why is there no sound in the Reddit app?

RedGIFs documents a limitation affecting NSFW and certain embedded media in Reddit's mobile app. A silent app embed does not necessarily mean you forgot to upload audio. Opening the RedGIFs page lets the viewer access the source player. See RedGIFs' explanation of Reddit embed audio.

Why does the Reddit video look blurry?

RedGIFs says Reddit playback, particularly on desktop, can begin in standard definition before switching to HD. Its explanation also says HD playback in the Reddit embed is capped at 1080p, with quality depending on the uploaded source. Uploading a 4K copy does not remove that stated embed limit. A low-quality first moment is therefore different from an upload that stays blurry throughout. See the official embed-quality explanation.

For a public promo clip, choose an opening that makes sense visually even if the viewer hears nothing. If the clip needs a line of context, let the Reddit title provide it within the community's rules. This is a presentation choice you control while playback behavior may vary across clients.

What to include when asking for help

If you still need help, collect the Reddit permalink, RedGIFs share URL, device/app, whether the source plays, and any removal notice. “The source plays with audio; the same Reddit post has a player on desktop but only a link in the app” is much more useful than “RedGIFs doesn't work.”

Send an embed problem with a working source to the relevant support team. Send a community-removal question through that subreddit's stated moderator contact route.

Once the post works, the next question is where that preview belongs. Use the subreddit selection guide to find communities that fit your content and accept your creator account. A functioning embed solves the display problem; choosing a suitable community is the next part of getting your work seen.
